There is a lot of stuff going on behind closed doors with the board that is in their personal interest not what is best for district.

It is unbelievable that the accomplishment of achieving a 96+% graduation rate, number 6 in the state, and this is the reward given to the leadership that delivered this amazing result?

The reason grad rates are so high is because of the online/alternative school catching those students that would have otherwise dropped out. Academically speaking, we are not breaking any amazing benchmarks for testing, and such. Also, proficiency grading gives every student multiple times to turn in, redo, and retake assignments and tests to keep bringing up the students' grades. These are the reasons that our grad numbers look good.

Things were changing in a positive way prior to the school boards choice for superintendent. Graduation and attendance rates were better then ever, kids have more opportunities, and our school was being recognized on a global scale. The staff at Dayton cares for students as individual learners. They nurture academics and strong character growth.

Things were also changing in a negative way prior to the school board's choice for superintendent but no one wanted to talk about it and I have to believe that the administration was either blind to it or felt they were pushing for the greater good. Because if they knew their policies inflated grades, crippled academic learning and work ethic, and pressured teachers to compromise their integrity; if they were okay with all that--their resignation would be a blessing.

Absolutely. Dayton was just visited by a large delegation of 20+ Australian educators and business leaders for its outstanding educational growth and unique Innovate culture. That was last week. Dayton School District is thriving... I can only imagine what will happen in the future, as staff continue working under this superintendant’s authority. I believe he lacks care for the school district and its growth. The thought is frightening.

The higher graduation rate does not equal outstanding educational growth. On the contrary--we simply inflated grades and lowered standards so more students can pass. Take a closer look at what is actually happening at our high school. Our diploma's are meaningless if we lack academic integrity and our academics at the high school are being sacrificed on the altars of relationships and innovation. It doesn't have to be that way. I would love to see our unique Innovate culture actually have outstanding educational growth.

The small town of Dayton is a close knit community and change is not always without bumps. This is one of those bumps and we NEED to act like adults. If we continue to do things the same way we will continue to fail our children. Set the emotions aside and start to look at the facts. As a district we need to update our school buildings that are falling apart, not this who do we like better popularity contest.

I feel that the school board knows that things need to change and that means new people being brought in ~ new policy and just because this is what we have always done is no more. No one likes change but it is necessary for growth

Having graduated five kids from Dayton over the course of 13yrs, I can attest that growth HAS happened, change HAS happened. Even over the last three years, since my last was in school, there has been GROWTH and CHANGE - and IMPROVEMENT - under immense scrutiny. Let’s just gut the place and see what happens then, shall we?
